Hello everyone,

This is my first post on this, or any other forum, gambling or otherwise. I am a life long CFL and Stampeders fan, but a relativly amatuer sports gambler compared to the likes of many of you. I have been a lurker for about a year plus, so I think I understand most of your rules/etiquite. CFL Football is my favorite sport to bet on, and I have always believed that it is the only sport that I make money, however I have never specifically tracked just my CFL bets and everyyear after September I go stupid on NFL and NCAA and drain my summer's earnings. So I hope to use this forum as a tool to track my bets so that I can isolate my one sport and see where I am going wrong perhaps in others. I wont bother telling anybody how I have done up until now this season as that would be "past posting" so I will start from scratch today.

Today I like the riders. I have read all of the reasons to take Montreal, my buddies are taking Montreal, most of you are taking Montreal, history points to montreal, etc. I am not buying it. I think prior years dominance is dictating this line and I was expecting Sask. to be 7.5 plus favorite. The green Riders are the best team in the CFL, and a strong home team. I know the Als have looked better than expected this year so far, but this line is a gift IMO.

Sask. -5, -105 (1 unit)

I also like the first half under...

Sask/Mtl 1H Under 25.5 -111 (1unit)

2008 0-0 0.00 units

hopefully I will have some rx beginners luck on my side.

Welcome, and good luck, but IMO the Riders are far from the best team in the CFL. I personally don't rate them as a top 4 team, and wouldn't be surprised to see them miss the playoffs. They could easily cover today though as I think the Als could be the worst team in the CFL (I still think the Ti-Cats are better), but I'm on the under, and have Als +112 to finish out a teaser.

GL. Kind of surprising though to see a Stamps fan call the Riders the best team when you could easily make a case for the Stamps being the top team this year.

Rjcsjc62 welcome to the forum; always glad to see fresh members with fresh opinions to add. Bol with all your plays.

OTK, that's a very interesting comment in that you don't view the Roughriders as a top 4 CFL team. I for one have to disagree but that's why we're here, to offer our own opinions.

i dont think the riders are the best team, but not a top 4 team ? cmon how is that. i think bc, calgary are better then the riders in terms of talent but who are the other 2 that you see as better than the riders ?

and for that matter what 6 teams are better then the riders that they dont make the playoffs ?

sorry to jump all over you but i read so many people just hurling mud at the riders and all they do so far is win. oh well i guess haha.

I would say the Argos and Bombers are both better teams as well. I know Winnipeg is 0-4, but I really don't put too much stock into early season records. Saskatchewan could easily be 1-2 right now because BC gave them the week 2 game, and Hamilton did the same week 3. Both teams should have beat the Riders, but mental errors cost both teams the game. I actually expect the Riders to go 4-0 today, but in terms of talent I don't see them in the top 4.

As for the playoffs comment, I do think they are the 5th best team and should make the playoffs, but I wouldn't be too surprised if Edmonton made it as third in the division due to their explosive offense. Overall Saskatchewan is better than the Eskimos, but I still have major doubts about their offense.

Thanks everybody for the replies. I feel a liitle dirty winning money yesterday as the game went nothing like I predicted and still won both bets. I think I got that rx luck that I asked for.
OTK - As long as they are undefeated they can have the "best team in CFL" title. Any fan who has survived a Wally Buono era knows that being the best team in July doesn't mean Jack. Even if Sask. finishes fourth in the west somehow, I still think they make the playoffs.

Today I am leaning Edmonton, but since I got away with one yesterday I kinda feel like sitting this one out. I dont even feel compelled to make an "action" bet, since I wont be around today to watch the game. A month ago if you asked me what the line would be for Edm @ Tor, I would have guessed Tor - 10. But since then Edmonton has shown that they can move the ball as well as any team in the league and Toronto has shown that they cant stop anything. That plus the uncomfortable QB situation, and really how could you be all that surprised if Edmonton won outright?
Conversely, if Toronto is going to break out of this offensive slump, this would be the Defence to do it against.
I guess I will do a little surfing and if I choose to bet I will stick it it this thread rather than starting a new one. It seems as though some people start a new thread for each game, some every week, and some keep an all season thread. I guess it's up to the author. Is there one way that is preferred?

thanks for your insights and I agree that a single thread is preferable.
BTW I'm on Toronto today.

Thanks Duke.
I did some reading and the only stats that seem to support the eskies was from the Edmonton Sun. They are reporting that the Eskimos are 4-1 SU lifetime when playing football on July the 20th. Quality Edmonton journalism. So everyone likes the Argos, but everytime I read somebody backing the argos I picture thier week 2 game at the skydome when the Cats murdered them. Maybe it is not fair to compare them to thier worst game of the year, every team has a game that they would like to have back. But I have to fade the Argos until they prove themselves to me.

EDM ML +153 (0.5 unit)

I like that I wont have to sit at home and actually cheer for the Eskimos, I can just check the score when I get home.

On another note, what I would have really liked to do was bet on a Edm TT, but pinny doesn't offer that. It would have been around 23.5 - 24. I think Edm scores 30, my only hesitation with this bet was whether or not Tor can score 31. Maybe I should consider having multiple books, like many of you seem to. Any suggestions?
